Consulting for Real People
A practical book for any established or
aspiring consultant, leader or manager involved in day to
day change in any organisation, large or small. |

|
 |
|
Client-centred consulting has been extraordinarily
effective in helping consultants from vastly different professional
disciplines and coming from a wide range of organisations
to genuinely change the way they work with their clients.
This is because:
- The emphasis is on skill
practice rather than on theoretical
discussion.
- We will support and encourage you while
you practise your skills with
real clients and client groups, with real problems and real
feelings about these problems.
- We treat the workshop as a consulting
assignment not a course. This will give you opportunities
to work as a consultant when helping the group and individuals
deal with the real difficulties they have when they work
together.
- You will have opportunities to experience
every phase of the consulting
cycle from contracting to disengagement.
- You will be encouraged to extend
your range of consulting styles, by experiencing
those styles as both client and consultant.
- We will provide you and your manager, with
an individual briefing
prior to the programme. This will help you to be better
prepared to take opportunities afforded by the programme.
- You will be given feedback
from other participants which will help you to:
- develop self awareness
- gather insights on how you are perceived
by your clients
- explore some of your underlying values
as they affect the way you consult and offer help
- work on improving your self-esteem.
Prior to the programme
You will be asked to read selected excerpts
from "Consulting
for Real People" (McGraw Hill) by Peter Cockman,
Bill Evans and Peter Reynolds. This means you are able to
devote maximum time during the programme to practising skills
rather than learning theories and models.
