Developing Self-Awareness and Self-Esteem
As a consultant you need to work at all levels
of your organisation, spend a lot of time out in other people's
territory, need to cope with suspicion or even hostility,
and must do all this without formal power or authority. To
cope with this you need a high level of self-esteem.
At the same time, your success as a consultant
will be influenced by the personal
impact you have on your clients.
This is an opportunity
to get immediate feedback on your behaviour and how it impacts
on others. This feedback should be about what is valued
about your behaviour as well as any blind spots or difficulties.
It is our experience that when people
get feedback, and work on understanding how they impact on
others and what others value about them, their feelings of
self-worth and self-esteem are significantly increased.
